Skye Blue Love was born on New Year's Day in 1988, and would grow up ruing her parents choice of name for her... that is, until she made big with it. Both her parents were born in the 60s, so they grew up with hippy parents of their own (and she would later learn that her grandparents used to be friends with one Gregory Kent). Her parents, however, were children of the 70s era and met at a disco when Saturday Night Fever was huge and her dad was dressed very ala John Travolta which more than had her mom's motor revving. They were both still in school at the time, but they married soon after they graduated high school where her mom, Daisy, went on to become a seamstress for a Broadway theatre and her father, Clinton, began training to be a firefighter. They married in 1979 when they were both 18, but they waited on having children and Skye was welcomed nine years later in 1988. She was born with golden blonde hair and bright blue eyes, and clearly at some point between her birth and her naming, they must have taken one hell of a hit of drugs when they decided to gift her with the name embarrassment that was 'Skye Blue' to match the surname 'Love'.
Skye was a pretty average kid growing up. Her parents were hard-working, but always had time for her, and she never particularly excelled in anything, so it took some time for her to figure out what her path was in life, but she truly loved reading and writing which was born of her grandfather telling her many, many tales about history, fantasy, theory, and fact. Her favourite days when she was young before he passed away from a heart attack when she was 9 was going to his place every Saturday and having 'Grandpa time' with him. She was crushed when he passed away, and still visits his grave to this day. The second blow in Skye's life was when she tragically lost her beloved dad in the September 11 World Trade Center terrorist attacks. His Ladder was one of the first called on the scene and he was in one of the towers when it collapsed. She nursed her mom through a tough depression after losing him, but after 12 years of mourning, her mom met a new man and has now re-married.
One thing Skye did seem to excel in was sex when she lost her virginity to the nextdoor neighbour's son, Rusty. She was hooked, there was no denying it. She wasn't particularly a slut, but she enjoyed the more risqué side of sex like giving different kinks a go and wanting to do it in a variety of places (the more chance of getting caught, the better). It was what led her to begin penning her first book about a group of five friends who all had more of a sex drive than they knew what to do with and all the adventures they managed to get themselves into crossing items off their 'Bucket List of Sex', called Sexcapisms. She did it for a laugh, but with her mom still working for the Broadway theatre, she knew someone who knew a publisher who was happy to take a look at Skye's manuscript. By the time she was 19, she was a publisher author with a four book deal to continue her Sexcapisms series, and she dedicated her first book to her dad and her grandpa.
But there was one particular thing that Skye learned from her grandpa, and that was about Kindred, a vampire Kind who walked the earth with them under the guise of The Masquerade, which was an intricate hierarchy of Clans and rulers that laid down the laws that allowed them to walk amongst humans. At first, Skye just thought he was making it up, but the tale got more and more intricate, until he one day told her that he would write it all down for her in diaries and lock it away in a safety deposit box that she could access when she was 18 and old enough to understand the depth of it. When he passed, the tales ended, but it was only when she was cleaning out her room to move into her own apartment with a friend, Jenna Greene, that she came across the key to the safe deposit box that her grandma had given her in the wake of her grandpa's funeral. She went to the safety deposit box and took out the piles of diaries he had kept for her... and in was within those pages that she learnt that her grandfather had been a Kindred Vessel when he was younger before he met his wife. A Vessel is a mortal rich in Vitae, the primal essence and energies of blood. It is the source of a Kindred's power and also the cause of his/her cravings. It is what sustains the undead body of the vampire and the reason they must drink the blood of the living regularly to survive.
It was when Skye went on to research her latest book (where one of her main characters, the gay male, wanted to attempt a sexual fantasy on horseback) that she visited one Xavier Carlisle, who just seemed so very classically traditional, poised, and with an English accent to absolutely die for. She got to chatting with him that evening and was fascinated by how knowledgeable he was. She also met his lover, Greg, which let to an observance of hers that literally gave her chills down her spine... "Gregory Kent? My grandfather had a close friend called Gregory Kent. He bought drugs off him in the 60s". She had laughed, but there was something in the way Greg had looked at Xavier that caught her attention, and then next thing she knew, she was pointing at Xavier, blue eyes wide and accusing him of not just being well-read in English history, but demanding to know if he had first hand knowledge. She was a writer, it was her job to be observant.
Which was how it came that Skye ended up offering herself as a Vessel to both Xavier and Greg. It wasn't like they sucked her dry every single day. It was merely the equivalent of giving blood, and as far as she was concerned, it was a worthy cause because she adored both boys and got very close to them. She knew they were chalk and cheese, and now affectionately refers to them as her "little monsters", even if they both have a good foot on her in height. She doesn't sleep with them, but she definitely enjoys the arousing thrill of pleasure that comes with getting fed from regularly and it is right up her alley with how much she enjoys sex in general, the pleasure being on the same level, if not more, than an excellent orgasm.
Something has developed recently, though, that she thought she was keeping to herself but underestimated the strength of a very old and very wise Kindred like Xavier. She has a terrible embarrassing but distinct crush on Greg's younger brother, a fellow Kindred Embraced by his brother to save his life from a terrible drug overdose, Trystan. He is absolutely gorgeous, brooding but with an addictive sarcastically dry sense of humour. She has even visited his sex club a few times to indulge in being fed on in hopes to get his attention, but all she witnessed was him feeding on another male, which wasn't such a bad consolation prize considering she was every bit a Kindred fag hag these days. But Trystan doesn't seem to know she exists and is merely casually friendly with her when they do end up in the same room together. She is oblivious to the fact Xavier is going to call her out on it, and what it could mean if he does.
Within a vampire bloodline known as The Kindred, seven vampire clans are collectively joined, forming the largest sect of vampires called the Camarilla, and survive through the Masquerade, disguising themselves as humans. Camarilla policy is that vampires should try to fit in with and hide from the rest of humanity, as to easily feed on them. For this reason, they created a web of lies and misinformation, called the Masquerade, to make the public believe that supernatural beings like vampires could not possibly exist. The Camarilla also believes that the only way the vampire species can survive in these modern nights is if it unite. Any breach of the Masquerade by any vampire risks exposing the entire race. Both viewpoints are fundamentally opposed by the Sabbat, an opposing sect to the Camarilla. The Camarilla also enforces the Eldest as ruling class over the younger vampires. The seven clans of the Camarilla are Ventrue, Brujah, Malkavian, Toreador, Gangrel, Tremere and Nosferatu. When a human is turned by a Kindred vampire, it is known as the Embrace, the vampire siring the human to embrace them into their own bloodline.
Each city has a ruler, a "Prince" who enforces the laws of The Masquerade that govern them to protect their anonymity. A clan is a group of vampires "related" by blood; i.e. the vampiric equivalent of an extended family or lineage. A clan is usually a large group, acknowledged widely in the vampiric society. Each clan nurture their own characteristics and traits, and each clan has its strengths and weaknesses. Often the clans do not always get along with certain clans such as the Brujah and the Ventrue actually hating one another. Each clan within a given area has a representative, a Primogen, who is usually the eldest and most powerful member of the clan, who attends the leader or prince's advisory council. This status also grants the character social advantages and greater power than being a normal member of their clan.
